Understanding your prequalification

We provide assessment services for two Health and Safety Prequalification frameworks: 
PREQUAL and TŌTIKA. 

Both frameworks are designed to ensure contractors meet high health and safety standards. It's important to choose the Prequalification type that best fits your industry and client requirements. If you're uncertain, please contact us for advice.

TŌTIKA Categories

Category Sole Trader

Category S - Sole Trader

Individual who works independently

You are an independent contractor who works solo without employing staff or engaging other contractors. Your work is entirely self-managed and independent.

$298 + GST ($149 per annum)

Smaller sized, regular construction risk activity supplier

You employ up to 20 people and handle regular construction risk activities with contract values not exceeding NZ$2.5 million.

Medium sized or higher risk activity supplier

With a team of up to 200, your contracts are capped at NZ$20 million and exclude very high-risk work activities.

You have over 200 employees, undertake significant contracts over NZ$20 million and engage in very high-risk work activities as defined by Tōtika.

Suppliers who operate as lead or principal contractors or designers can be allocated to any category.

 TŌTIKA recognises several external audits and certifications, such as ISO45001, SafePlus On-Site Assessment, and Q-Safe, allowing you to achieve H&S Prequalification without an assessment. For equivalent certifications, contact TŌTIKA at www.totika.org

Core criteria and prequalification questionnaire

Tōtika classifies contractors as either “Performing” or “Developing.” In order to achieve the “Performing” status, you must demonstrate that your capabilities meet the minimum requirements for each core criteria.

Tōtika validity periods

  • Categories S and 1 are valid for 24 months
  • Categories 2 and 3 are valid for 12 months

Tōtika achieved through existing accreditation or certification will expire in line with the certification/accreditation’s expiry.

Submission

Complete the online assessment and submit your information. An assessor will review your submission and may request additional details if needed.

Response

Receive feedback directly from your assessor. You’ll have time to provide extra information or clarification to help complete your assessment faster.

Step4

Step 4. 

Prequalified

Once your assessment is complete, download your H+S prequalification report and certificate to share with current and potential clients.
